We are a year 1/2 class. Our teacher is Miss Rogers and our learning is supported by Mrs Deuter and Mrs Humphries.
The Enchanted Woodland
This half term Oak Class have been learning about the Enchanted Woodland. We have done lots of fun things as part of our topic, starting with a visit to the school field to explore and investigate the trees, animals and woodland treasures
We did a mini beast hunt. We collected the data in the school playground and produced tally charts and a bar graph to display our findings.
We also had a visitor from the pets and wildlife charity P.A.W.S. come in to talk to us about wildlife, show us some animals and answer our questions.
We celebrated the end of our topic with a Woodland Party.
Autumn Term 2
Bright Lights, Big City
This half term Oak Class have been learning about London, events that have happened in London and the Royal Family.
We learnt about the Great Fire of London, when and where it happened and the events of the 4 days it burnt for. We then looked at pictures to get us thinking using our senses. We thought about what we might be able to see, hear, smell and feel if we were in London during the Great Fire in 1666.
Santa sent one of his elves to see us on the run up to Christmas. When he arrived, we read the story that came with him and then we gave him the name Chip. We did lots of fantastic writing about Chip. He did lots of silly things in our classroom, which shocked us when we came in and made us laugh! Here are some photographs of some of the things he did.
Towers, tunnels and turrets.
This term we will be learning about castles and towers around the world.
Church Visit and R.E. Day
To enhance our growing understanding of Christianity, we visited Christ Church Gentleshaw. The priest in charge told us lots of information about the church and Christian Symbols. Here are some photographs for you to enjoy.
OAK class trip to the Black Country Museum
On Tuesday 4th April we went on a class trip to the Black Country Museum. We had a wonderful day learning about how life was in the past. We went to the school and experienced a 1912 style lesson. Miss Rogers was naughty and didn't bring in her money for the class outing so the teacher gave her the cane. Ouch!
Easter Bonnet Parade
Oak Class made some fantastic Easter bonnets. Here are some photos for you to see.
OAK CLASS NEWSLETTER Summer 1
THE GRUFFALO TRAIL
Oak and Pine class went to Cannock Chase to follow the Gruffalo Trail. We had a great afternoon following the trail to find all of the Gruffalo characters. We enjoyed using the IPads and watch the funny things the characters were doing, especially the Owl. We thought it was really funny when he almost fell off the tree truck!!!
CUP and BALL TOY
Oak Class had great fun making their own old fashioned toy. Using a cup, string and foil, the children made a cup and ball toy just like we played with at the Black Country Museum. Here are some pictures of the children playing with their toys for you to enjoy.
Today Oak Class learnt about the Christian Creation story and the Hindu Creation story. We used roleplay to get a good understanding of the stories so that we could sequence the events in each story and compare them. We found this fun and the children learnt all about how the religions think the world was created.
